Freguesia's Fregobloco was created out of a desire to enliven carnival culture in the West Side, which had been losing ground to other regions of the city. Formed by local rhythm players, their repertoire mixes iconic sambas such as "Canto das Três Raças" and "Samba de Arerê" with national and international pop hits
