About

'Does the nun come out or not?' One of the most famous legends of Rio's Carnival, the question is enthusiastically maintained and makes Santa Teresa one of the most characteristic regions of the festivities. The tradition is only one: that people of all genders wear their nun habits on their heads, so that the 'runaway' can play in peace, without being recognized. Climbing up Ladeira do Convento das Carmelitas, the block attracts thousands of people with its outings - one on the friday before carnival and another on shrove tuesday. With good humor, they take to the streets to say what they think about society and the city, with examples of sustainability and respect.

Expected crowd: ~10,000
